Former UK guard Landon Slone has a new basketball address: Morehead State. The freshman from Paintsville transferred after UK's new coaching staff promised to limit the number of walk-ons on next year's Wildcat roster. Slone saw the writing on the wall and began his search for a new home. Slone looked at Bellarmine, Northern Kentucky and a couple of JUCO schools, before deciding upon Donnie Tyndall's Eagles. The 6-foot-3 guard cited a chance to play in the NCAA Tournament as one of his reasons for choosing Morehead. The Eagles continue to ride a wave of momentum following an OVC Tournament title and their appearance in last season's NCAA Tournament, the school's first in 25 years. Adding Slone only brings more attention to the MSU program. Morehead defeated Alabama State in the first game of the tournament on national television, then parlayed that into a first-round matchup with top-seeded Louisville. Despite falling to Rick Pitino's Cardinals, Morehead had earned the respect of it's league, the state and many across the country. Now, Tyndall will coach a former Wildcat. For that region of the state, it's a really big deal. Despite not being on scholarship, Slone quickly became a fan favorite while he was in Lexington, as much for his hustle and grit as for his eastern Kentucky heritage. Slone will petition the NCAA to allow him to play next season for the Eagles. By rule, transfers must sit out a season, but Slone says due to UK's coaching change, his situation warrants a second look. Slone says he was forced out and should be allowed to play immediately. Whether he plays next year or not, the addition of Slone continues the good vibes coming out of Rowan Co. Those are the highlights... Stay tuned. |

Good luck Landon. i agree with you that you should not have to wait to play hopefully the ncaa agrees as well.Appreciated the effort you gave us as a uk player to again good luck with your future. Posted by: Ernie Location: Sesame Street We would've loved to had you at Bellarmine! Good luck. Posted by: Jim Location: Cincinnati A walk-on for a team that lost 14 games. Played in 15 games with an average of 1.5PPG and shot 27% from the field. Now here is a person that is capable of milking media attention like no other. Nothing against you Landon, you are by all accounts a fine young man and likely a good player. But seriously, you should consider making Politics your day job. Posted by: susan Location: kentucky Horray for Slone---I was so thrilled to see a KY boy on Uk team---sorry it was such a mess for you. Morehead is a great school and has it's own history. You will shine there and I'll be watching--maybe in person as you will only be about 40 min from my home. Go Eagles---they will be a contender for NCAA for sure because of YOU! Best of luck and the BBN will not forget you!!! You are a Kentuckian!!!! |
