As was mentioned in the previous post, former Wildcat and Lafayette product Michael Bertram is having his finest year as a minor leaguer. Playing with the Lakeland Flying Tigers, Detroit's A team, Bertram had raised his batting average to .283 and was leading the team in RBI (47). The hope was that Detroit would move Bertram up in the farm system. That phone call came over the weekend.

Charles Bertram informed me that his son was on a plane early Friday morning en route to Erie, Pa., home of the Tigers' double-A squad, the Erie SeaWolves.

Bertram has made an immediate impact in Erie.  Playing first base, Bertram has played in two games, collecting four hits in eight at-bats.  He has four RBI, with a homer and a double.

Ironically, Bertram was afforded the roster spot when former UK teammate Ryan Strieby went on the 7-day DL with a wrist injury.  Strieby has been splitting time between first base and left field.  Erie, without a backup first baseman, moved Bertram up.

Those are the highlights... Stay tuned.
