A couple of high-profile high schoolers are in town this weekend, showcasing their skills for UK fans, and presumably, UK coaches. C.J. Leslie, a former teammate of John Wall at Word of God Academy, will play Friday night at Lexington Catholic against Bluegrass Baptist.
Leslie, a top-five power forward in the class of 2010, includes Kentucky among his list of schools that have offered.
"Let's just say they're high on me and I'm high on them," Leslie said.
The 6-foot-8 Leslie wouldn't narrow his list of possible suitors, but said he loves John Calipari's system, is pleased that Wall has made an immediate impact at UK and considers the Big Blue faithful to among the best in the country.
If you miss Leslie on Friday, catch him in action on Saturday night at Lexington Catholic. The Holy Rams face Cincinnati Roger Bacon at 8:30 p.m.
Also in town this weekend... 6-foot-8 Quincy Miller, a forward at Quality Education Academy in Winston-Salem. Miller has made no secret he's a Calipari fan, and on Friday, was seen walking the halls at the Joe Craft Center wearing a UK sweatshirt. If you want to read the tea leaves, consider his mother was seen soon thereafter, also wearing UK apparel.
Miller is rated a 5-star recruit by Rivals.com and will be playing at Lexington Christian Academy this weekend. On Friday, QEA faces Mountain State Academy at 7:30 p.m. at LCA.
Welcome Back, Ashley
The peeps on campus tell me Ashley Judd will make her 2010 Rupp Arena appearance on Saturday. Her beloved Wildcats tip-off their SEC schedule against Georgia. The Dogs were impressive in their win earlier this week over in-state rival Georgia Tech.
Mark Fox is in his first season in Athens, taking over for Dennis Felton, who was fired last year. Fox hired former Wildcat Mark Pope as his director of basketball operations.
Pope played on UK's 1996 National Championship team. Before transferring to Kentucky, Pope played for Fox at Washington.
Those are the highlights... Stay tuned.
