John Calipari announced via Twitter on Wednesday night that the game between current UK NBA players and his Dominican Republic national team will happen at Rupp Arena on Aug. 15.
"On August 15th, the Dominican National Team will face the Kentucky Pros (8 former Kentucky players currently in the NBA) at Rupp Arena," Cal tweeted.
He also added that every former UK player is invited to the game, at which they will be honored.
Sounds like this could be one of the biggest player reunions in school history.
There were several issues still to be resolved when word began spreading that organizers were working with Rupp Arena officials to make the game happen. One of the biggest: insurance policies to cover the pro players against injury, who currently have guaranteed salaries at stake.
Also on Wednesday, Eduardo Najri, the general manager of the Dominican national team, said his country's players would begin arriving in Lexington next week.
Najri told Domincanos en Basket, an online site dedicated to basketball in the DR, that players will report to the Joe Craft Center on Monday.
In addition, the site is reporting that UK center Eloy Vargas will be one of the players attending the DR training camp former Louisville players Edgar Sosa and Francisco Garcia, former Florida player Al Horford, UConn's Charlie Villanueva, Jon Horford, Luis Flores, Giancarlos Acosta, Jack M. Martinez, Kelvin Peña, Ricky Soliver, Sean Ogirri, Ronald Ramon, Manuel Guzman, Manuel Fortuna, Eulis Baez, Dagoberto Peña, Juan P. Montas and Luis Martinez.
Calipari also released the roster of the former UK players via Twitter. They include Eric Bledsoe, John Wall, DeMarcus Cousins, Jodie Meeks, Nazr Mohammed, Keith Bogans, Rajon Rondo and Tayshaun Prince.
That's what I call an ALL-TIME roster of UK players.
See you at Rupp!
