Former UK All-American outfielder Collin Cowgill made his major league debut Tuesday night. Cowgill and his Arizona Diamondbacks won in San Diego, 6-1.

Cowgill flew out in his first two at-bats, before going down on strikes in his last two. In the fifth inning, his drive to right field fell just a few feet short of leaving the yard for his first major league hit. Officially, Cowgill was 0-4 in his first big league game.

After terrorizing the Pacific Coast League this summer, playing in Class AAA Reno, Cowgill was called up by the D-backs on Sunday. In 98 games, Cowgill was hitting .350, with 13 homers, 70 RBI and 30 stolen bases. Cowgill was named to the Triple-A  All-Star Game.

Cowgill was a member of UK’s 2006 SEC Championship team. The 25-year-old former Henry Clay star joins former Wildcats Joe Blanton and Scott Downs in the big leagues and is the first position player from UK to play in the majors since Andy Green.
