Kentucky fans love their basketball heroes, but man, do they loathe their villains.
UK fans circle the games every year on the schedule: Florida, Tennessee, Indiana, Louisville, North Carolina. Boy, what would a UK-Duke game mean to fans?
So you would think a game pitting current UK NBA players against other NBA players from rival teams would make for good theater. We’ll soon find out.
Such a game is scheduled for Rupp Arena on Oct. 24.
The game, Big Blue All-Stars vs. the Villains, will feature several names near and dear to every UK fan’s heart: John Wall, Tayshaun Prince, Nazr Mohammed, Keith Bogans, Jodie Meeks, Chuck Hayes and DeMarcus Cousins all have committed to play.
Oh. They’ll be coached by one of UK’s all-time fan favorites: Rex Chapman.
And the team they’ll play?
Nolan Smith (Duke), Eric Gordon (Indiana), Tyler Hansbrough (North Carolina), Rudy Gay (UConn), Kenneth Faried (Morehead St.) and Shelvin Mack (Butler) have committed. Zach Randolph (Michigan St.) and Corey Brewer (Florida) are still deciding.
Oh. The villains will be coached by legendary UK villain, Christian Laettner.
As much fun as Derek Anderson’s reunion games were several years ago, and the UK Pros-Dominican Republic game was earlier this summer, this one could be a blockbuster.
Tickets go on sale Monday.
Those are the highlights… Stay tuned.
