A year ago, we brought you the story of Kevin Massey, a UK fan lost in the heart of Hoosier country. His story touched the hearts of many in this state and around the country.
It also touched the heart of one John Calipari. Massey, diagnosed with a brain tumor just days after his 16th birthday, was befriended by the UK coach, who heard about Massey's dire situation from a coaching friend.
At one point, Massey was given just days to live. Now, a year later, Kevin has defied all odds. His mother, Ruth, says Kevin has a tremendous will to live and even has resumed classwork at Franklin Central High School in Indy.
Last week, the Masseys made their first trip to Rupp Arena to see the Cats win against Coppin State. Calipari made sure the family had a memorable time. After watching the game from just behind the Kentucky bench, Massey and his family were treated to a tour of the UK locker room.
Calipari led his team in prayer for Massey, then posed for pictures with him.
Afterward, a grateful Massey said Calipari had made his dreams come true.
"It shows that he cares about his fans and his players," Massey said of Calipari. "But it also shows that he's a good man. A good Christian man."
You can see Massey's visit in an excerpt from "This is Kentucky Basketball" here.
