Horses born, bred or trained in the state are eligible, as are jockeys and trainers who regularly compete at Kentucky tracks. The choices were many, but one man stood out above the rest: John Wall. Wall became an overnight sensation before he ever took the floor at Rupp Arena, mainly because of 30 seconds he spent in the Rupp rafters. It was during the 2010 Big Blue Madness that Wall made an indelible image in the conscience of Kentucky fans. His John Wall dance became a hit -- Troop 41, a hip hop group out of Raleigh, even has a song out now called "Do The John Wall." Wall's brilliance on the floor belied his 19 years. His impact was immediate, throwing in the game winner against Miami (OH). Wall led the Cats to an SEC title, an SEC Tournament championship and within a game to UK's Final Four since 1998. The centerpiece to one of the greatest recruiting classes in college basketball history, Wall became the first Wildcat to be chosen as the No. 1 overall pick in the NBA Draft. Also on my top 10 list: John Calipari, DeMarcus Cousins, Victoria Dunlap, Kenneth Faried, Pearse Lyons, Matthew Mitchell, Rajon Rondo, Zenyatta and Blame. The 2010 Kentucky Sportsman of the Year will be announced on Jan. 23. Those are the highlights... Stay tuned.
