Former Wildcat Derrick Locke has never shied away from telling anyone within earshot what he wants to do now that his college days are over: Locke is bound and determined to play in the National Football League.
A message on Locke's Twitter account says: "just finished my career at UK...now working for the biggest interview of my life..NFL"
Locke currently is at the IMG Academy in Brandeton, Fla. Kim Berard, the Head of Public Relations for IMG Academies, confirms Locke is enrolled in their NFL Combine Training Camp.
According to the IMG Academies web site, the IMG Performance Institute has trained 23 first-round draft picks.
In an email, Berard writes that Locke attended a mock combine, where the Academy collects initial data on the players in attendance.
She also writes that while at IMG, Locke will receive not only position-specific training and physical conditioning, but instruction on nutrition, commuications and interview training, mental conditioning and vision training.
IMG's staff includes former NFL quarterback and Heisman Trophy winner Chris Weinke and speed coach Loren Seagrave.
IMG boasts that it has worked with many of the NFL’s greats over their years to prepare them for their Combine experience, including Drew Brees, Anquan Boldin, Eli Manning and LaDainian Tomlinson.
In recent posts on his Twitter account, Locke says he's attended an acting class, which he says helps with the interview process.
Locke, known for his blazing speed, also said in a recent post that he might be able to run a 4.2 second 40-yard dash while at IMG.
For his sake, here's hoping he has a great camp.
Those are the highlights... Stay tuned.
