There's a new sheriff in town, and with it, renewed optimism. I'm speaking specifically about UK coach John Calipari and the excitement he's generated since being on the job since April 1. Coach Cal has spent a good portion of his time in the Bluegrass State meeting fans and spreading the word, that Kentucky is back and in a big way. He nearly single-handedly raised the excitement level to a fever pitch, in what was one of the most anticipated basketball seasons in recent UK history. During his acceptance speech, Ryan noted how his twin sons, Rob and Rex, were both defensive coaches on championship teams in the NFL. "The bottom line," Ryan said that night," Is if you want to win a title, hire a Ryan." Laughter ensued, but Ryan made his point. The legendary Paul "Bear" Bryant is the most successful coach ever to walk the sidelines in Lexington, but now Brooks has one-upped the Bear -- UK has won three straight bowl games for the first time in school history. Certainly, it was a scary moment for UK players, coaches and fans, when guards Ramon Harris and Michael Porter collided during the first half of Wednesday's blowout win over Lamar. The two players banged heads during a loose ball scramble and had to be helped off the floor with injuries. Initially, it appeared Porter might be more seriously injured. The junior fell near midcourt with a severe cut above his left eye. Harris fell between the UK bench and the free throw lane. As team physicians attended to him, Harris was moving his legs and feet, in obvious pain. His teammates said Harris was crying out. (Read Blog)
