Doctors are calling it one of the most important findings in cancer
research in the last decade.
A new study shows CT scans can dramatically lower the risk of dying from lung cancer.
Researchers followed 53-thousand heavy smokers.
Half had x-rays, the other half got more sensitive CT scans, which detected tumors when they were much smaller.
Doctors found the group with CT scans had 20-percent fewer deaths.
Experts say this discovery could save thousands of lives each year.
