The University of the Cumberlands Men’s Wrestling program is one that continues to excel to the top of the collegiate rankings over the past few years. Now the Patriots have their opportunity to grab another accomplishment on their way. The Mid-South Conference has officially made Men’s Wrestling its newest conference sport.

Five teams will be included in the conference for the first year. These teams include the University of the Cumberlands, Campbellsville University, West Virginia Tech, Lindsey Wilson College, and Cumberland University. This is only the 2nd conference in the NAIA that has Men’s Wrestling as a conference sport. The Mid-South Conference Men’s Wrestling Championship will be held at Campbellsville University in late February just before the NAIA National Championships in March.

University of the Cumberlands Athletic Director Randy Vernon commented, “We’re very excited that Men’s Wrestling is now a Mid-South Conference sport. This is another goal for our team to shoot for year in and year out. This will be a very competitive conference and we look forward to see the outcome this year.”

Head University of the Cumberlands Men’s Wrestling Coach Andy Medders also commented, “Wrestling becoming a part of the Mid-South Conference is a huge advancement for the sport. Our wrestlers will now have the opportunity to gain recognition in a more localized area of competition. It gives us another goal other than just the national tournament. The Mid-South Conference will have some very tough competition in its first year and we will be looking to win the tournament and take home the first ever MSC championship to Williamsburg.”
