CORBIN, Ky. (WKYT) - The Corbin Independent School District is receiving security upgrades because of a local attorney's $51,000 donation.
Attorney Shane Romines is delivering money and wands to the district Monday. Romines says this is the result of an earlier promise to help make schools safer.
Romines has also donated to Knox County, while Laurel County turned down his offer. Whitley County is still considered his donation.
“It has been an overwhelming early response. Just excitement among the students, teachers, and staff," Romines says, "That has not always been the response from the boards of education, so that was a little surprising to me in some ways, but I also realize that they are the ones who have to spend the money to man these things and do the things.”
Romines was going to make a presentation at Lynn Camp and Knox Central High Schools Monday, but the board of education told him they wanted to delay that to further study policies and procedures.
