LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) - Build-A-Bear Workshop's one-day promotion where customers can purchase one of the store's bears for the price of their age has caused so much demand the company has cut off lines.

The company says the Pay Your Age Day promotion saw so much interest it cannot accept additional guests at the request of law enforcement agencies.

The deal allows people who are registered for the Build-A-Bear Workshop Bonus Club can purchase a bear for a child as young as 1 as long as they are present in the store. You will have to enroll in the club before arriving in the store for the special.

The company also announced Bonus Club members can bring children under 14 to the store and pay their age for their bear on the month their birthday occurs.

“We have overwhelming data that indicates Build-A-Bear is synonymous with childhood, and nearly one-third of our sales are associated with birthdays,” Build-A-Bear Workshop president and chief executive officer Sharon Price John said.

The offer was only available in stores for a single purchase. Customers have expressed disappointment because of the high demand, and the company has issued a statement for those who couldn't take advantage of the deal.
