KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) - Athletics Director John Currie and the UT administration have decided to move in a different direction with its football program.
A source close to the program tells WVLT that Butch Jones has been relieved of his head coaching duties at Tennessee.
John Currie was on Campus early this morning to meet with the UT coaching staff.
This was the 5th season for Butch Jones as UT head coach, during which time his record was 34-27 including Saturday's 50-17 loss to Missouri.
The Vols are 4-6 overall this season including a very disappointing 0-6 in SEC play. Losses last season to South Carolina and more importantly Vanderbilt did not help Butch's cause going into what was going to be a rebuilding year for Tennessee after losing several players including star Quarterback Josh Dobbs.
For the second straight season, injuries have also plagued the head coach, who has seen a number of starters and top performers go down again this season.
Former Michigan head coach Brady Hoke has been tabbed as UT's interim head coach as the Vols try and salvage wins against LSU and Vandy in order to become Bowl eligible.
