LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) - Ceremonies are being held throughout central Kentucky Saturday to honor veterans.

Many city and state leaders gathered at Veterans Park in Lexington Saturday morning for the city's Veterans Day Appreciation Event. The Veterans Park Elementary Intermediate Chorus also sang for the large crowd on hand.

Captain Steven Pfeif was one of several veterans who stood amongst the large crowd out at Veterans Park. Pfeif served in the Marine Corp from 1968-1975.

"Being a veteran in the Vietnam era, we were not received well when we came home. In the last 10 to 15 years, it's been an emotional experience," Pfeif said.

This is the 3rd year councilmember Susan Lamb has hosted the Veterans Day Appreciation Event. Mayor Jim Gray along with Congressman Andy Barr attended as special guest speakers.

Lexington's Veterans Day parade will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday downtown.

Ceremonies are also being held Saturday to honor veterans on the EKU campus in Richmond, at Camp Nelson National Cemetery, and in Wilmore, among other places.
