LAUREL COUNTY, Ky. (WKYT) - The Laurel County Sheriff's Office says an 8-year-old boy seriously injured in a crash Monday died from those injuries, Thursday.
The sheriff's office says they were notified about the boy's death by the University of Kentucky Medical Center around 5:30 p.m. Thursday.
The Fayette County Coroner's Office later identified the boy as Jacob Sturgill.
Jacob was one of six children injured in a crash that happened Monday on US 25, about 3 miles north of London. Police say two adults and a teenager were also injured.
Stephanie Allen is Jacob's older sister she says since the crash the family has been in shock.
"When I saw him it was horrible," she told WKYT. It's some of the worst injuries I've ever saw on someone."
According to detectives, a Chevrolet Venture turned left off US 25 at the intersection and traveled into the path of a Toyota Highlander.
"Anytime a child is involved in a crash like that it really is hard on the emergency service people I mean we do our job but it sure is a heart breaker," Deputy Gilbert Acciardo said.
Allen says the with half of the family still recovering, they're having a hard time coming up with money to bury Jacob.
Allen set up a GoFundMe page to help cover Jacob's funeral expenses.
