Chris Johnson's Forecast | A big warm surge ahead

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) - Did you feel that today? Talk about a warm up! If you enjoyed today's temperatures, you'll really like what's ahead.

Tonight, look for mostly cloudy skies to win out as lows only fall into the upper 30's and low 40's. Areas of drizzle and a few showers look possible tonight and into Wednesday morning. Patchy fog likely develops once again.

By Wednesday afternoon, a nice southerly wind kicks in as temperatures soar into the mid-upper 50's. While mostly cloudy skies continue, the feel is absolutely fantastic for early January. But wait, it gets even better. Winds crank up to 20, even 30 mph while temperatures soar into the mid 60's Thursday. Some spots south and east cloud flirt with the 70º mark! On the flip side, showers start developing by the afternoon and evening hours.

This warm up and shower development will be part of a very strong system that develops to our west and southwest. With cold front moving in from the northwest and a developing low across the deep south, the threat for heavy rain to snow looks possible.

It's a little early to talk specifics, but low placement and how fast temperatures cool off will ultimately play into our snow chances. Temperatures likely crash Friday into the 40's before dropping into the upper 20's Friday night. Snow would break out and continue through Saturday. Regardless, the pattern looks active through this weekend!
