LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) - God's Pantry got some significant aid in their mission to help feed the hungry.
Smithfield Foods and Kroger announced on Tuesday they are donating more than 39,000 pounds of protein to the food bank.
With a donation of that magnitude, Michael J. Halligan, CEO God's Pantry Food, said the organization will be able to provide more than 159,000 servings to individuals in the Lexington area.
"Donors like Smithfield Foods and Kroger and all of the other donors that support God's Pantry Food Bank, what they really do is deliver hope to the lives of those that are less fortunate than you or I," Halligan commented.
Since 2011, Smithfield Foods has been able to provide more than 80 million servings of protein to food banks across America.
