LAUREL COUNTY, Ky. (WKYT) - An investigation is underway in Laurel County after someone discovered a dead dog with an arrow through its back.
The dog was first discovered along Kentucky 1023 near the Merrimac Baptist Church on Monday and was finally removed sometime late in the afternoon.
Some of those who saw the dog tell WKYT's Phil Pendleton at first they thought it had just hit by a car. However, when they came back about an hour later, they saw the arrow.
An arrow had pierced the small black dog through its back. Police are investigating, but they have not released any new information on the case at this time.
A woman who lives nearby said she removed the dog and was able to find the dog owner, who was supposed to come and pick up the dog sometime this morning.
Several animal groups such as Justice for Abused Animals are working to raise awareness the death.
