RICHMOND, Ky. (WKYT) - Hundreds of people have gathered on the Eastern Kentucky University campus to watch the eclipse.

EKU is hoping to give folks a chance to witness this historic event and experience it in a way they can't at home. People will be able to ask questions and interact with Eastern's astronomy professors and eclipse experts. They'll also be able to see the eclipse through special telescopes set up by university officials. After the eclipse, the planetarium on campus will offer a free viewing of one of their shows.

A lot of kids who came out for the event are excited to see something so unique at such a young age.

"I just want to experience what I never did in my whole entire life....it's really exciting," said Natia Ellington.

"I think I'm going to see something very very amazing," Stephanie Coffey remarked.

The event was complete with food trucks and games for the whole family.
