Family asking for justice for daughter who was murdered, dumped in woods

LAUREL COUNTY, Ky. (WKYT) - In early March, 36-year-old Shannon Saylor was reported missing. Three weeks later, she was found in a wooded area in Clay County.

"She was like one of the nicest people you could meet you know she would be friendly with everyone," Haley Saylor said. Haley is Shannon Saylor's 16-year-old daughter.

"I can remember at night she would always go out with me and we would catch fireflies and stuff," Haley Saylor said.

Police arrested 47-year-old Jeffrey Taylor at the end of March and charged him with the murder of Shannon Saylor. He is still lodged at the Laurel County Detention Center.

Police say Taylor, who was Saylor's boyfriend, killed her by hitting her in the head with a rock.

"How could a person do something like that and just have her and just toss her away like she was just garbage- just throw her body away," Lynn Vaughn asked. Vaughn is Shannon Saylor's mother.

One year before Lynn Vaughn's daughter was murdered, their home burnt to the ground.

So now as her family struggles to find strength, Vaughn is asking for one thing.

"I want justice for my child," Vaughn said, "If he done it to mine, he'll do it to someone else's. I don't want another person to go through what I have had to."

Vaughn said she also had one thing to say to the man who allegedly murdered her daughter.

"You may have took her but she'll always be right here(pointing to heart). That's one thing he can never take from me," Vaughn said.

Police arrested a second person, Boyd Simpson, last week in connection to disposing of Saylor's body.

Police have not released a motive to the murder.
