Family, friends hold vigil to remember Lexington teen

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) - Families and friends all over Lexington are hurting, saying goodbye to loved ones taken way too soon after three homicides in a matter of hours earlier this week.

On Thursday, a huge crowd gathered outside Mikel Willis' house, lighting candles and sharing stories as they tried to comfort each other.

Willis, 19, was found dead early Wednesday morning behind an apartment on East Sixth Street near Shropshire Avenue. Investigators said he was shot.

Those who knew him are dealing with unbearable pain, saying even though they know he is in a better place, it isn't easy for them to say goodbye.

"Everybody loved Mikel. He had a smile that could brighten up a whole room, a barbecue, everywhere he came he was the life of the party," said Elaine Justice, his aunt. "Mikel was loved by so many people. And it hurts."
