Lancaster, Ky. (WKYT) - An early morning fire destroyed an iconic home on Herrington Lake early Saturday morning.
Boaters say the fire broke out around 5 a.m. Those who dock at Pandora Marina say they woke up to a loud explosion, then saw flames shooting from the home right across the lake.
Tony Pankey says he's been boating on Herrington Lake all his life
and knows the couple who built the home on the water over 40 years ago.
Thankfully, WKYT was told the couple and their dog made it out in time and onto their boat to get help.
Those who have been boating on Herrington Lake for years say it was the house everyone knew and grew to love.
"The house has been there for so long and I just know that every time you come across the bridge, you see that beautiful house, just so pretty and it's been there I think since the 70's," said neighbor, Janice Holloway.
Officials have not yet said what caused the fire.
