LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) - Prices at the pump are hitting record lows. AAA says gas prices are the lowest they've seen on a July 4th holiday weekend since 2005.
A lot of people are expected to hit the roads and travel for the 4th of July holiday. Travel experts with AAA say families will find more than half the states in the U.S. selling gas for less than two dollars a gallon.
South Carolina has the lowest gas prices currently. AAA says 86% of stations in the Palmetto State are at or below the two-dollar mark.
The average price for motor fuel is currently $2.33/gallon.
Drivers like Rebecca Watkins, making a stop in Lexington to fill up, have noticed lower prices.
"They've been very moderate. We left Michigan, and it was $2.32. So we've been enjoying the cheap ones heading there and back," said Watkins.
