Joshua Akemon says he was taking a nap when is son unlocked the dead bolt on his apartment door, and went outside.

The boy was found by a legally blind woman who lives nearby.

Akemon says he feels like he deserves to be in jail, and is just happy that his son is alive and well.

"I'm just glad he didn't get out there and get hit by a car or something. Whether I'm in jail or not, I'm just happy that he was okay," Akemon said from jail.

Akemon is charged with endangering the welfare of a minor.

Since he has no history of neglect or abuse, the child will be allowed to stay in his home.
