LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT)- Students at a Lexington elementary school celebrated Thanksgiving today with help from the Kiwanis Club of Lexington.
On Tuesday the Kiwanis Club continued their 22-year tradition of serving a Thanksgiving meal to students at Harrison Elementary in Lexington.
The students were served the meal by volunteers. Members of the club say many of these kids have never experienced the holiday.
“A lot of these kids have never even seen a whole turkey carved before, so it’s really a lot of fun to see their reaction," says Kiwanian Jim Jenkins. "“For many of the club members, this is their favorite project of the year. As we walk around the cafeteria and talk to the students, we can see how much this means to them. Many of them do not have the privilege of having a meal like this on Thanksgiving day. So it is really special.”
The club says they plan to be back next year.
