KNOTT COUNTY, Ky. (WKYT) - A rockslide blocked Highway 80 in Knott County Friday afternoon.
A large boulder fell into the eastbound lanes, blocking both lanes near the Perry County line. Officials say eastbound traffic is able to pass the rock in the median.
State officials say the rock is too large to remove in one piece. "We have contacted Jigsaw, our contractor who has the equipment to drill the big rock into smaller pieces that can be removed with our equipment," said Bobby Smith, the Knott County highway superintendent for the state transportation cabinet.
Officials say there will be crews flagging traffic until the rock can be removed from the road, and urge drivers to watch for them, especially as snow falls Friday evening into Saturday morning.
