Lexington Police: Man asking for donations arrested on unrelated charges

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) - The Lexington Police Department says they have arrested a man, they say was involved in a scam, on unrelated theft charges.

According to police, Kenneth Roth, 51, was believed to be soliciting donations for the Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) Angel Tree program. Police say he has also claimed to be affiliated with the United Way, Make a Wish Foundation, churches, and other local organizations. However, police do not think Roth is a legitimate volunteer with any of those organizations.

Police don't think Roth has received any money from his quests.

Roth was arrested on Tuesday evening by Lexington Police. They say they picked him up at a hotel in the Hamburg area. Police tell WKYT he had been staying in a room longer than it was booked for and ordering room service with no intention to pay.

Roth was charged with theft by deception.
