LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) - The parking lot of an apartment complex on Danielle Lane in Lexington became the scene of a murder investigation on July 10th. 19 year-old Darrius Twyman later died from a gunshot wound at The University of Kentucky hospital. The apartment complex parking lot was littered with shell casings. Several empty cars were hit with bullets. Neighbors in the complex told police they saw a blue Chrysler speed away from the scene, but still no arrests in the murder have been made.
"That was my baby, that was my best friend," his mother told reporters. "He always calls, and that night, I didn't get a phone call."
Four days after Twyman's death, his family, friends and neighbors held a vigil on Woodhill Drive in his honor. They were asking the community for the gun violence to end. "Somebody speak up, I keep asking, speak up!," his mother yelled. "I'm going to miss my baby. I don't have my son anymore."
