Low water levels still a problem at Herrington Lake

HARRODSBURG, Ky. (WKYT) - Water levels have not increased much at Herrington Lake in the past week, and that has caused boat ramps to remain closed during Memorial Day weekend.

The water level has only increased one foot the past several days, but it is enough to re-open some ramps, but some marina owners would like to see it higher.

"The water needs to come up at least four more feet to open up two or three more ramps on the lake," Pandora Marina owner Rick Bartley said.

Marina owners say they still expect to see many people out, even though rain is in the forecast.

"It's one of our three busiest holidays, we kind of expect to have some decent weather this time of year, but you know if you're going to be coming to the lake you're going to get wet anyhow," Bartley says.

If you are coming to the lake, Bartley is advising visitors to keep it clean.

Workers are continuing to work on the Kennedy Bridge, which is why the lake levels are low. That work will not complete until 2019.

Marina owners say it will only take a couple inches of rain to raise the lake 3-4 feet.
