JACKSON COUNTY, Ky. (WKYT) - A Jackson County grand jury decided there is enough evidence to send the case against a man charged with the murder of a five-year-old to trial. They indicted Lonnie Belt for murder, assault, kidnapping, evidence tampering, and abuse of a corpse charges on Tuesday.

A judge set Belt's bond at $1.5 million cash.

Police say Belt used a metal object to beat five-year-old James Spoonamore to death last month.

According to detectives, Belt lured Jessica Durham to his home and then kidnapped her and her son. Belt told police that after beating Durham, he took her to the woods and kicked her off a cliff. She fell 77-feet. Durham was there for nearly 24 hours before hikers found her. Belt told detectives that he killed the five-year-old boy because he witnessed the assault.

The detective testified that Belt was upset that Jessica Durham's husband stole $200 from him.

Court officials say Belt will likely be arraigned on the charges on November 7 at 10:30 am.
