Fog, speed possible factors in deadly Lexington crash

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) - Lexington Police say fog and speed were possible factors in a deadly, overnight crash.

It happened just before 2:00 a.m. Tuesday on New Circle Road at Versailles Road. Lexington Police say the driver of a red SUV was thrown from the vehicle and killed. He was the only person in the SUV.

The Fayette County Coroner says James Black, 26, of Erlanger, died in the crash.

The fog caused travel problems across the region on Tuesday morning. Visibility was down to three quarters of a mile or less around Lexington. Police say there were multiple crashes, in addition to the deadly one on New Circle. They issued a warning to drivers.

"Whenever you have limited visibility you should always decrease your speed, it gives you greater likelihood that you can stop in case something else in your path whether it be another vehicle or anything else. You see the vehicle driving by us right now, a lot of these drivers are probably driving too fast for the conditions, we just ask that people slow down and drive with caution," said Lt. Chris Dearinger with Lexington Police.
