RICHMOND, Ky. (WKYT) - Madison County EMS says it saw an increase in doses of Narcan administered in 2017 compared to 2016.
According to Madison County EMS, 511 doses of Narcan were administered in 2017 to 361 patients. It's an increase of 24%.
In 2016, Madison County EMS administered 443 doses of Narcan to 291 patients.
They say the number of overdoses they responded to was much higher from 2016, but many of the patients did not require Narcan.
In addition to the overdose calls, they say they responded to a record number of patients in 2017.
In 2017, their crews responded to 17,696 calls surpassing 2016 number by nearly 1,000.
