LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) - J.C. Penney announced Friday which stores it plans to close over the next several months as it aims to improve profitability in the era of online shopping.
While the 138 stores on the list represent about 14% of the company's total stores, no stores in Kentucky are on the list.
J.C. Penney has 21 stores in Kentucky, including one inside Fayette Mall in Lexington.
The company says about 5,000 jobs will be impacted by the closures, most of which will happen in June.
