Papa John's Pizza is ending its eight year relationship as the "Official Sponsor of the NFL."
Ex-CEO John Schnatter said a drop in sales ultimately led the company to make the decision. The relationship between the chain and the NFL went south after controversy over players not standing for the national anthem last season.
Papa John's will remain fully active in the NFL where they plan to remain partners with 22 individual teams.
The NFL expects to have a replacement sponsor before the start of the 2018 season.
