LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) - A University of Kentucky student died Wednesday after a serious crash involving a motorcycle and a car on South Limestone on the UK campus.

The Fayette County coroner's office identified the student as 22-year old Ryan J. Greenwell of Cincinnati.

Students and staff at UK say Greenwell was an alumnus of the Delta Sigma Phi Fraternity. He was from the Cincinnati area.

The crash happened between Virginia Avenue and Transcript Avenue, near the entrance of the Kentucky Clinic.

Police say a car headed away from downtown on South Limestone was turning left into the clinic when it crossed in front of Greenwell, who was driving a motorcycle.

Police say they are investigating whether or not the driver of the car had a green or red light at the time of the crash.

Police had to shut down South Limestone in both directions in that block, before reopening around 11:25 a.m. Wednesday.
