LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) - Police say they are investigating after a woman's body was found on a driveway in a Lexington neighborhood.
Officers and the Fayette County Coroner were at a home on Leslie Drive in the Joyland neighborhood. A mobile crime lab was at the scene for several hours Monday afternoon.
Fayette County Coroner Gary Ginn tells us that investigators are treating the death as a homicide, until or unless they find a reason to think otherwise.
“There is obvious wounds, but the position and things here, we’re not really able to put the story together. And we’re going to rely on hopefully the police gathering that information in order to do that," Ginn said. “So right now we’re kind of starting at the top, and the top would be we’re looking at it as a possible homicide. And then we’ll work our way down, or we might not work out way down. But right now we’re handling, gathering information.”
The woman's identity has not yet been released.
People who live nearby said that neighbors there look out for each other, and they were shocked to hear about what happened.
"They'd help out with stuff around the back yard, if one of us was on vacation, we'd keep an eye on each other's houses, check on the pets, we've known each other for a while," said Ben Riley, who lives next door.
It is unclear how long the body was in the driveway. The medical examiner in Frankfort will perform an autopsy.
