OLDHAM COUNTY, Ky. (WKYT) - Kentucky State Police have released the identity and cause of death of an inmate from the Kentucky State Reformatory in Oldham County.
KSP say the inmate, David Carver, died around 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Carver is the same inmate who took a nurse hostage earlier that day with an improvised edged weapon.
Police say Carver died after being shot by an officer of the reformatory's Correction Emergency Response Team.
In a press release, KSP say state troopers tried to negotiate with Carver for about two hours. As negotiations deteriorated, CERT officers took over for state troopers and resumed negotiations.
After negotiations deteriorated again, KSP say a CERT officer shot Carver because he made an aggressive move toward the officer with the edged weapon.
State police are continuing to investigate.
