LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) - Police are clearing the scene near two Lexington elementary schools after several reports of shots being fired.

Police tell WKYT that they canvassed the area of Redding Road and found no evidence of shots being fired.

Lisa Deffendall with Fayette County Public Schools says Lansdowne Elementary and Millcreek Elementary were both placed on heightened alert. Deffendall said a heightened alert means students are kept inside the school and classes continue as normal.

Deffendall also told WKYT additional resources are being sent to the two elementary schools until the situation is under control.

Police said they talked with school crossing guards who told them they did not hear any shots in the area.

There are no reports of any injuries.

Early Thursday morning, there was a burglary at an apartment on Redding Road.

The victim said three men with guns broke into his house and quickly realized they were in the wrong apartment. Police said the suspects may have gotten away in a gray Kia Soul.
