RICHMOND, Ky. (WKYT) - Kentucky State Police say they have a juvenile in custody following a threat made on social media.
Officials at Madison Central High School had extra security in place on Monday after school officials discovered the threat made on Instagram. Someone posted a comment overnight threatening gun violence at the high school.
After discovering the threat, administrators tell WKYT they immediately put in place a plan to increase security. Police also began an investigation.
"It’s a very delicate balance. Obviously, we try to make sure we aren’t interrupting instruction as much as possible, but at the same time, we have to maintain security, so our kids and staff feel safe as well," Erin Stewart with Madison County Schools.
Police also provided security at Daniel Boone Elementary which is across the street from the high school.
On Monday afternoon, Kentucky State Police said they had a juvenile in custody and that charges had not yet been filed. They also said the juvenile was present at school on Monday and that they believed he acted alone in making the threat.
