WHITLEY COUNTY, Ky. (WKYT) - Whitley County authorities say a road rage incident led to a man being shot in his ear.

Deputies reported to the scene of the shooting at the intersection of U.S. Highway 25 and Kentucky Highway 204. When they arrived they found a 25-year-old man shot "through an ear."

Investigators discovered the man was shot after a 77-year-old man took issue with the victim's vehicle blocking part of Shiner Church Road. This led to a verbal confrontation.

Deputies say the confrontation escalated to the point the 77-year-old, later identified as John Mullins, shot the victim from close range with a handgun.

The victim was transported to Baptist Health Corbin, where he was later transferred to University of Kentucky Medical Center.

Mullins was arrested and charged with second-degree assault.
