FRANKFORT, Ky. (WKYT) - Dozens of people gather to honor fallen Kentucky firefighters.
The state added six names to the Kentucky Fallen Firefighter Memorial. First responders from across the state gathered to honor the firefighters.
Alison Lundergan Grimes delivered the keynote address. Grimes was active in getting legislation passed to ensure line of duty benefits to surviving families of firefighters who die from cancer. Three people honored during Wednesday's event died from a cancer-related illness.
Christina Clevenger lost her husband to a structure fire. Zach Clevenger was a member of the Montgomery County Fire Department. She says it was vital for her to bring her son to the ceremony and to be apart of the memorial.
"We've been here so we know what it's like to be here and we know how important it is to have that support system."
