FRANKFORT, Ky. (WKYT) - Reggie Thomas, a State Senator representing Kentucky's 13th District, filed his candidacy for United States Congress on Wednesday.
Thomas was previously an attorney for four decades in Lexington before winning a seat in the State's Senate in 2013.
"I launched this campaign in July with the goal to defeat Andy Barr,” Thomas said. “Time and time again, Congressman Barr has proven he is not doing a good job for Kentuckians. His votes on healthcare and the GOP’s latest tax scam reflect that.”
In a news release, Thomas details the change he has heard Kentuckians in his district want.
“I have traveled to each of the sixth district’s 19 counties several times, and everywhere I go, people tell me they want Medicare for All, a higher minimum wage and improved infrastructure. I’ll make those three issues my top priorities when I arrive in Washington and will do my best to deliver for my constituents.”
If elected, Thomas would become Kentucky's first African-American Congressman.
