HARDIN COUNTY, Ky. (WKYT) - A deputy is on paid administrative leave after investigators say the individual shot a Kentucky driver following a Thursday evening traffic stop.

Kentucky State Police say the deputy was trying to locate a driver that was reportedly intoxicated and driving recklessly. The deputy located the vehicle on Kentucky Highway 222, and law enforcement stopped the driver shortly thereafter.

Investigators say the deputy shot the driver following a brief interaction. The driver was airlifted to University of Louisville Hospital where he remains in serious condition.

State police did not say what prompted the deputy to shoot the driver, as its investigation is only in its preliminary stage.
