INDIANAPOLIS (WKYT) - The University of Kentucky begins their march to national title number nine Friday night in Indianapolis.
Kentucky (29-5) is the No. 2 seed in the South region and will play No. 15 seed Northern Kentucky (24-10).
The Wildcats held an open practice Thursday afternoon at Bankers Life Fieldhouse.
Head Coach John Calipari and UK's three seniors held a news conference just before the team practice.
Coach Calipari is taking his seventh team in eight seasons to the NCAA tournament. He told the media the ebbs and flows of a season can be exhilarating and maddening.
"So this has been one of those experiences where it's always a process with us because they are new teams," Calipari said. We have the youngest team in this tournament. So it takes time to really figure things out and learn. We've learned to win a lot of different ways."
The players say they understand the importance of the game.
"You gotta be way more focused, because if you lose, you're out," UK Guard Malik Monk said. "You gotta be way more focused, and our energy has got to be at another level."
Tip-off for UK and NKU is scheduled for approximately 9:40 p.m Friday. The game will air on WKYT.
