LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) - Boom Williams is one of the top running backs in the SEC and Mark Stoops believes he's made big strides.
"He's really grown up," said Stoops. "He's really maturing. And he's really, you know, it's great to see Boom because this game is so mental. It's such a big part of it, and he's maturing. He's always been a talented guy but he's more detailed in his runs, and his mentality is much better."
Williams threw his arms around freshman running back Benny Snell Jr. when Snell came to the sidelines following a one yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter of Saturday's 17-10 victory over South Carolina.
"It's great for him to see him on the sidelines smacking Benny on the head and giving him a high five and cheering it with that complement, instead of it just being about Boom. Boom's gonna get his."
Williams is the third leading rusher in the SEC behind Leonard Fournette of LSU and Ralph Webb of Vanderbilt. He's averaging 116 yards per game and eight yards per carry.
