LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) - "When I first got here I looked at the record books and I said that I wanted my name to be in there," said UK middle blocker Kaz Brown. "So I kind of did everything in my power to put myself in that position."
The record books are exactly where Kentucky senior Kaz Brown has found herself. The all-time leader in career blocks in the rally scoring era, first in block assists and on Sunday she became the program's all-time solo block leader with fifty six.
"My dad always tells me that defense wins games and I think that's something stuck with me," said Brown. "I think in almost any sport you're going to find the floor if you can play defense. So regardless of what game you're playing, if you can play defense there's always going to be a sport for you."
Volleyball is often thought of as an offensive game, but it's the defensive plays that can provide huge momentum swings.
"Like if you shut down the other team's best hitter, I think that provides something special on your side and you can really turn up the momentum," said Brown.
With Sunday's win over Tennessee, the Wildcats improved to 17-2 overall and a perfect 8-0 in the SEC. Much of their success can be credited to their defense.
"We're a defense first team," said Brown. "I think that's also a reason we've been so successful. So we take a lot of pride in our defense and we spend a lot of time on it."
