LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) - Lexington’s newest public high school now has a nickname. After a student vote, Frederick Douglass High School’s mascot will be the Broncos.
The vote came after complaints the initial mascot Stalliions was sexist.
Of the more than 850 student ballots collected, sixty-three percent were cast in favor of Broncos. Other options included Mustangs, Racers, Thoroughbreds and Stampede.
The Douglass Broncos play their first-ever football game on Saturday at Danville.
