LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) - UK has never lost to EKU, but the last meeting between the Colonels and the Wildcats was a nailbiter, going into overtime.
Two seasons ago, EKU led by 14 points with just 7:39 remaining. UK scored two late fourth quarter touchdowns to force the extra period, and won, 34-27. Colonel players feel like they let a win slip away that night.
“We had that hunger taste in our mouth and we were right there,” running back Ethan Thomas said.
“I feel like they kind of got one from us,” defensive end Aaron Patrick said. “It’ll be fun to go back there and have a chance to go at it again with them.”
JoJo Kemp scored on a 7-yard run to make it 27-20 EKU with 4:59 remaining. Patrick Towles hit Dorian Baker on a 5-yard touchdown pass with :52 left in regulation to send the game into overtime.
Baker’s 3-yard touchdown grab in overtime was the game-winner.
Patrick recorded a tackle in that 2015 game and says the loss still haunts him.
“I’ve really been thinking about it since the last time we’ve played them,” Patrick said on Tuesday. “It’s always been on my mind.”
